In the polished halls of Congress, where the nation’s most critical debates unfold, it’s not uncommon for tempers to flare and ideologies to clash. However, it’s a rare sight when a lawmaker’s grasp of the very laws they debate is called into question. This was the scene during a House Oversight Subcommittee hearing on ‘The Consequences of Catch and Release at the Border,’ where Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), a newcomer to the congressional scene, found himself embroiled in a contentious exchange with Matt O’Brien, Director of Investigations at the Immigration Reform Law Institute and a former immigration judge.
The discussion, which was meant to shed light on the intricate dynamics of immigration policy, quickly turned into a revealing lesson on the importance of thorough preparation and an in-depth understanding of the subject matter at hand.
