IRLI Statement on U.S. Immigration Agreement with Mexico

WASHINGTON – The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) has released the following statement on the immigration agreement between the United States and Mexico:

“Catch and release is one of our most destructive immigration policies, so anything that seeks to remedy the problem is good news,” said Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of IRLI. “This agreement is a blow to the cartels that have become powerful in Latin America from their drug and human trafficking operations into the United States. The Trump administration is to be commended for taking a hard line on this issue as well as the growing surge of asylum seekers at our border. The challenge will be holding the Mexican government accountable to its obligations in the agreement over the long term.”
