Exposing the Players behind Obama’s Immigration Policies

(Washington, D.C.) – On behalf of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) announced today it has filed a lawsuit (attached here) in the US District Court for the District of Columbia seeking records from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that will shed light on the formation of President Obama’s unlawful executive amnesties. FAIR has been forced to file suit due to continued stonewalling by staffers within the agency, a violation of federal public records law and the spirit of government openness and transparency

FAIR’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request sought records regarding a series of meetings involving several top Obama appointees, including former Secretary Jeh Johnson and former White House advisor Cecilia Munoz, that took place in the summer of 2014 to discuss how to push through amnesty following the collapse of the Rubio-Schumer amnesty bill in congress. What eventuated, the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) announced in November of 2014, would later be struck down by the Supreme Court. IRLI uncovered the existence of these meetings last year through documents produced in another FOIA investigation-Those findings were originally published by Breitbart News (story found here).

IRLI Executive Director, Dale L. Wilcox, commented, “FAIR and IRLI are committed to uncovering the extent of the Obama Administration’s deceits and deceptions when it decided to force executive amnesty on the American people. The American electorate are not invisible and if the political elite want mass amnesty they at least have to put it before the peoples’ representatives in Congress first.” Wilcox further commented, “Our suit comes at a perfect time with the Trump Administration debating whether to strike down Obama’s original DACA amensty, a program that’s just as unlawful and unconstitutional, not to mention anti-labor, anti-Rule of Law, and anti-American.”
