Leftist Elites: Illegal Aliens For Thee, Not For Me

The epitome of vapid, elite leftism was on display in the nation’s capital earlier this month when Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser complained that illegal aliens being bussed from Texas are overwhelming her city, and that Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott may have “tricked” them into coming to the nation’s capital.

Since earlier this year, Abbott and Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey have been bussing illegal aliens imported into the country by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C., so the powers that be can get a first-hand look at the crisis they’ve created. Sanctuary city mayors like Bowser have been coldly indifferent to the suffering of border states as they endured the consequences of Biden’s disastrous immigration agenda. Now that a small amount of that burden has landed in their fiefdoms, they are livid.

“This is a very significant issue. We have for sure called on the federal government to work across state lines to prevent people from really being tricked into getting on buses,” Bowser said.

Bowser’s notion that Abbott is tricking illegal aliens into coming to D.C. is, of course, absurd. If it were up to Abbott and Texas, these aliens would never be allowed in the country to begin with. But, since the Biden administration has insisted on opening our border with Mexico, Abbott is bussing aliens into Washington, D.C., to give the swamp, and the leftist elites who occupy it, a taste of their own medicine.

Bowser and other D.C. officials are concerned that these migrants are crowding the city’s homeless shelters, and adding to the city’s homeless epidemic. And Washington isn’t the only sanctuary city now being forced to confront President Joe Biden’s decimated border. New York City officials are also complaining that their resources are being overwhelmed by illegal aliens.

Aliens who have crossed the Texas and Arizona borders are now arriving in the Big Apple. The influx of aliens is reportedly flooding the city’s homeless shelters, so much so that Democratic Mayor Eric Adams is having to beg the White House for help.

Adams claimed that the aliens are being imported into New York by the federal government, and that the city “may struggle to provide the proper level of support our clients deserve” if the Biden administration does not provide them with assistance. It’s worth mentioning that Adams and Bowser have been staunch supporters of this administration’s anti-border policies and both run sanctuary cities that routinely refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Anti-border policies are disastrous, but elite leftists only seem to care when it begins to drain resources from the cosmopolitan areas where they congregate.

Adams even supported a bill from the New York City Council which would allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. A New York state court agreed with the argument in the Immigration Reform Law Institute’s friend-of-the-court brief, and the law was struck down.

The White House, for its part, is slamming Texas and Arizona for daring to send illegal aliens to the nation’s capital.

“This has come up before, and we believe it’s shameful that some governors are using migrants as a political tool,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said recently.

But, the White House is projecting. Only one side of the immigration debate is using migrants as “a political tool,” and it’s not the side advocating for stronger enforcement. After all, it is the Biden administration and their anti-border allies who have evoked compassion for migrants as justification for its policies, despite the record number of migrants who have perished under their watch.

This White House has used migrants as a political tool to justify policies that have fueled a drug epidemic, which has led to fentanyl becoming the number one cause of death among young Americans. Anti-border policies are disastrous, but elite leftists only seem to care when it begins to drain resources from the cosmopolitan areas where they congregate. They want no borders, but they only want states outside of their leftist bubble to pay the price for them.

The complaints from the White House and big city mayors are simply the chickens coming home to roost. They are also a vindication of Abbott’s strategy to shift some of the burden of the border crisis to the cities and officials responsible for the crisis in the first place. By exposing their hypocrisy, Abbott and Ducey have demonstrated to the country the absurdity behind this administration’s immigration policy. They deserve credit for having done so.
