On March 11, 2014, SCOTUSBlog listed Frederick County v. Santos as its Petition of the Day. This means that the case presents questions of law that SCOTUSBlog believes could interest the judges. Specifically, Frederick County addresses the issue of whether a state or local officer may briefly detain an alien pursuant to a civil immigration warrant, for the purpose of contacting ICE for further instructions. The Supreme Court should decide whether to grant certiorari on March 23, 2014.
