Decision frees $2.5 billion from Defense Department funds

WASHINGTON – Last night the Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump can begin construction of the wall on our southern border using funding from the Defense Department. The decision in the matter of Trump v. Sierra Club lifts an injunction from a district court in California that was later upheld in the Ninth Circuit.

“The anti-borders advocates can try to spin this, but the ruling is a huge win for President Trump and his America First immigration policies,” said Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of IRLI. “The situation at the border is a matter of national security, and the chief executive is empowered to address it. The Court made the right decision.”

IRLI has been an advocate in the case for the release of military funds to be used for wall construction. Earlier this month IRLI filed an emergency brief in the Supreme Court on behalf of U.S. Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) in support of the government’s petition to stay the lower court injunction.
